K-Groups

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42)
Small groups at Cahaba Park are known as K-Groups. The “K” in K-Group stands for the Greek word koinonia, meaning fellowship. We believe that God in his Word calls his people to experience fellowship with one another.

K-Groups meet on Sunday evenings at 5:30pm and have three purposes:

Fellowship

God graciously provides for his people through a community of believers, and calls the body to fellowship with one another continually. We believe one of the most effective ways of doing this is by sharing a meal together. K-Groups meet each week in a host home and share a meal together. Groups are organized according to geographical location around the city to make meeting easy. Each group is comprised of all ages and stages of life, and all are welcome!

Prayer

Life is difficult, but God calls us to rest on him and his provision, and one way he provides for his people is through the prayers of his people. We believe that God will bring about personal and community transformation through the faith-centered prayers of His people. After a meal together, each K-Group is encouraged to share their lives and pray for one another as well as the community.

Sermon Discussion

After groups fellowship and pray together, a sermon discussion time will follow in the time that remains. Life-application questions from the sermon and Scripture passage will be provided in the morning’s worship guide, and those questions will be the focus of the discussion time.

K-Group FAQ

Why should I join a K-Group?

We believe every individual will experience Christ in a deeper way in the context of relationships. In the K-Group setting, the body of Christ becomes and functions as a family.

How can I join a K-Group?

Contact the K-Group pastor, Casey Giddens (cgiddens@cahabapark.org, 205-757-6857) or visit one with a member you know or on your own.

When do K-Groups meet?

Each group meets about twelve times in the fall and twelve times in the spring on Sundays from 5:30-7:00pm. K-Groups are encouraged to plan social events and meet unofficially whenever they would like. Since K-Groups are about fellowship, they are more than just meetings at designated times.

Where do K-Groups meet?

Groups meet in homes throughout the Birmingham metro area including Homewood, Hoover, Birmingham, Vestavia and Mountain Brook.

What is the size of a K-Group?

K-Groups are typically 8-12 people. We believe this is an ideal number to foster healthy relationship-building. At this number, members of the group are encouraged to invite friends, neighbors and co-workers. If a group grows beyond this number, multiplication of the group may be necessary for the next term. This will be the natural outcome of healthy growth.

What if I’m not a member? Can I attend a K-Group?

Since the K-Group ministry is such a vital part of the church, non-members are encouraged to attend a K-Group to allow them to consider whether CPC is a church in which they would like to invest. Our desire is for personal and community transformation through Christ for all people, not just our members.

What if I’m not a Christian? Can I attend a K-Group?

Everyone is welcome to attend a K-Group. If you desire fellowship or are curious about Christianity, a K-Group is a great place to see what it means to know Christ and have community in his name.

What about my children?

Each group will decide individually how to handle the oversight of children in the group. Depending on the ages of the children, they may be included in all or only some of the group time. Parents often contribute to pay babysitters during the prayer and discussion time.
