K-Groups

WHAT ARE K-GROUPS?

“K-Groups” are our church’s small-group ministry. “K” is short for koinonia, which is the Greek word for “fellowship.”  In Acts 2:42, Luke writes, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” K-Groups are the best place to experience fellowship, and to be a part of a smaller family within the church.

K-Groups are comprised of all ages and stages of life, and they include long-term members and visitors.

K-Group meetings are Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:00pm. Meetings consist of sharing a meal, praying together, and discussing the sermon from that day.

But K-Group is more than a meeting. For fellowship to be forged, members of each group must be willing to “live life together.”  This means praying for each other, making a phone call when you notice someone hasn’t been at church, and gathering outside of Sunday nights.

If you would like more information about KGroups, e-mail Casey Giddens or call him at 205.757.6857.

Currently there are 14 groups throughout the metropolitan Birmingham area, so there should be one close to you.

K-Group FAQ

Why should I join a K-Group?

We believe every individual will experience Christ in a deeper way in the context of relationships. In the K-Group setting, the body of Christ becomes and functions as a family.

How can I join a K-Group?

Contact the K-Group pastor, Casey Giddens (cgiddens@cahabapark.org, 205-757-6857) or visit one with a member you know or on your own.

When do K-Groups meet?

Each group meets about twelve times in the fall and twelve times in the spring on Sundays from 5:30-7:00pm. K-Groups are encouraged to plan social events and meet unofficially whenever they would like. Since K-Groups are about fellowship, they are more than just meetings at designated times.

Where do K-Groups meet?

Groups meet in homes throughout the Birmingham metro area including Homewood, Hoover, Birmingham, Vestavia and Mountain Brook.

What is the size of a K-Group?

K-Groups are typically 8-12 people. We believe this is an ideal number to foster healthy relationship-building. At this number, members of the group are encouraged to invite friends, neighbors and co-workers. If a group grows beyond this number, multiplication of the group may be necessary for the next term. This will be the natural outcome of healthy growth.

What if I’m not a member? Can I attend a K-Group?

Since the K-Group ministry is such a vital part of the church, non-members are encouraged to attend a K-Group to allow them to consider whether CPC is a church in which they would like to invest. Our desire is for personal and community transformation through Christ for all people, not just our members.

What if I’m not a Christian? Can I attend a K-Group?

Everyone is welcome to attend a K-Group. If you desire fellowship or are curious about Christianity, a K-Group is a great place to see what it means to know Christ and have community in his name.

What about my children?

Each group will decide individually how to handle the oversight of children in the group. Depending on the ages of the children, they may be included in all or only some of the group time. Parents often contribute to pay babysitters during the prayer and discussion time.
